For as long as she can remember, the sights, sounds, and values of farm life have been part of Madelyn Tanner's story. Raised in Beaver Dam and now living in Roseboro, agriculture has helped shape every chapter of her life.
Farming is woven into her family history. Her grandparents were among the first families to begin hog farming with Murphy Farms in 1981, while also growing tobacco, soybeans, and other crops. Years later, when Madelyn was born, her parents built a hog farm of their own.
What was once her childhood is now the life she's creating for the next generation. When Madelyn married Brandon in 2020, she became part of another farming family, blending generations of agricultural traditions into one shared future. Today, they operate a turkey farm, raise cattle and produce hay while raising their growing family on the farm. Their daughter, Maddon, and son, Winston, are already developing a deep love for farm life, and they’re excited to welcome their third child this fall.
“There is something special about getting to work for agriculture and coming home to it, too,” Madelyn said.
Since joining AgCarolina Farm Credit in 2019, Madelyn has combined her firsthand agricultural experience with her passion for serving local farm families. She began her career as a loan assistant and has since grown into her current role as a commercial loan processor in the Clinton office.
"I enjoy getting to know the people in our community. Having been raised on a farm, I understand the hard work, sacrifices, and challenges that come with the farming lifestyle," she said.
Outside of work, Madelyn is helping raise the next generation on the farm. Her daughter, Maddon, loves bows and glitter but also enjoys helping with the baby pigs and turkeys, while her son, Winston proudly calls himself a cowboy and loves anything involving cattle, hay, and tractors.
"It's important that we keep family farms going," she said. "I'm proud to raise my kids on the farm, just like other generations before them were raised."
For Madelyn, agriculture is more than a career or a lifestyle. It's a legacy. As she helps farm families through her work and raises her own family on the farm, she's proof that the deepest roots often grow across generations.
