STATESVILLE, NC – This year’s NC State Fair Junior Livestock Sale of Champions was held on October 19th and brought in $167,000 to benefit youth scholarships and livestock programs. The Farm Credit Associations of North Carolina purchased the reserve grand champion junior market steer, shown by Ross Hinnant of Kenly, with a winning bid of $14,000.
The reserve grand champion meat goat, shown by Caley Mayo of Whitakers, was purchased for $7,000 by the Farm Credit Associations of NC and Tractor Supply Company.
The Farm Credit Associations of NC, Prestage Farms, Smithfield Foods, Hog Slat, Inc., and Farm Bureau Insurance purchased the reserve grand champion barrow for $15,000. It was shown by Justus Meads of Hertford.
In addition to the livestock auction, the Farm Credit Associations of NC participated in a truckload support auction which raised $96,750 to help support the youth that participated in the shows and sales.
